I am a 33 year old facing ACL reconstruction (auto, ham, left knee) on October 28. I tore my ACL over 8 years ago skiing and never even knew I did it! On occasion since then, my knee will feel like it gives out. I don't fall or lose control, it's like it pops out of and then back into place. This mainly has happened to me when I have been out dancing as I don't participate in any cutting sports. This past winter I tore some medial meniscus playing volleyball and decided to have my knee looked at. Imagine my surprise when I learned I had a torn ACL. I did therapy for about 3 months while I was deciding whether or not to have the ACL recon done. I finally decided to go ahead with the surgery. I'm a rower and so I've put the surgery off until rowing season was over. I'm hoping I'm making the right decision by having the surgery done. I don't experience pain in the knee just occasional soreness, however, I do feel like I need to be extra careful at times.
