I was in a car accident about 6 years ago. The car hit right in front of my drivers side door. I (the driver)was thrown to toward the drivers door. My body twisted from the waist(I saw the other cars passengers hit their airbags)and my head cracked the window (no back injurys occurred). At the same time, my right leg, at the knee, which was on the gas pedal, was thrown to the left. I felt sudden pain in my knee (which made me think "that is going to hurt later... I had to climb out of the right car door and as soon as i stood, my right leg buckled out from under me. I was in a lot of pain for months and my leg wanted to buckle (and did) for months after that. Walking, sitting, turning could be precarious with the chance of leg buckling and me ending up on my butt on the ground. (I was never given or offered a leg brace by my Drs. I was put on physical therapy for a couple of months. As time went on the pain got better and the falling came less frequently. Although I always feel there is a chance of that happening. It has been pretty good lately, but I just spent a few days hiking on mountain trails and after the 3rd day the muscles (?) around my knee cap and directly behind my knee BURNED with pain. It was swollen, wooden leg feeling and I felt the possibility of collapse again. I feel that I will probably have the need of a knee brace of some type when doing this strenuous of an activity but have no idea which kind to purchase. I dont want anything cumbersome. If anyone has suggestions of which kind to purchase please email. Thanks!
