I was referred to the board by another on line user who thought I might be able to get some good information for my 15 year old son....
My son (then 14) was a freshman high school football player who took a blow to the side of the knee.
- At the time it swelled up huge...but went down just as quickly. The Doctor diagnosed no broken bones and a sprained MCL. Pain went away in about 2 weeks
- He went back to practice (wearing a knee brace for precaution) and full practiced for a week then played in another game with no problems.
- His appt for his MRI came up (they take so long) so we went as a precaution....reviewed fractured growth plate in his knee....and damaged meniscous....doctor said it was on its way to healing and give it another month....would be ready for basketball....
- A month goes by...and for some reason now pain is there when it was not before.....especially when he attemps to accellerate or burst....taken back to the doctor who says he has smashed cartilage....says give it another month....no lifting squatting etc with the legs during that time only pool work....
- We wait TWO months.....now he is able to squat with no pain...but STILL cannot accellerate or burst without pain...and that does not appear to be going away.
During that time he has also been taking Lglutimine, and GNC Triflex Chews for his joints and cartilage.
It has now been FIVE total months...and he still cannot run. Going back to the Ortho....time to push for orthiscopic surgery? My son says he feels like there is something loose behind his kneecap.
