I am 57 year old. The original injury occurred it 1969 in a football game. After several additional injuries, primarily in basketball, the OS I was seeing at time suggested surgery. To the best of memory, the term "ACL" had not yet come to be. In surgery, the OS removed the entire meniscus on one side--that was what they did back then. I am now convinced that my ACL was ruptured in the 1st injury, but no thought was given to reconstruction.

Over the years, my knee would "pop", I would limp around for a few weeks, and then everything would return to normal. My last popping was in August, 2006. When I did not recover timely, I visited a new OS (original one is probably dead by now) who did all of the imaging and informed me I had meniscus damage, arthritis, and floating object. He could not tell if I had an ACL.

I am an avid bicyclist.

Surgery happened on 10/23/06. I was back on my bike seven days later, much to my PT's chagrin. And rode 60 miles at 13 days.

I submitted a question on 11/6/06, but it has not yet been posted.
