Male, 40 y.o.
Landed wrong after a jump while playing Ultimate Frisbee, felt a lightning bolt from my toes to the top of my head, centered on my knee. The emergency room doc missed the diagnosis, as did another HMO doctor. Convinced I was fine, I played on it a month later, tried a hard change of direction and went down again. Yet another doctor told me I was fine, despite the fact that I clearly heard a rip in my knee. Endured my HMO's gatekeeper system for two months, severely limiting my activities. I finally got through all the gatekeepers and to an orthopedist. I was convinced I was fine. The OS said otherwise; took him 10 seconds to figure it out.
(Turns out I tore my ACL 80% the first time, then the remaining 20% a month later).
Had my operation (auto hammy) on 9/5. Tried to stay awake through the general anesthesia, but woke up two hours later wondering what planet I was on.
Rehab is going very well, thank you.
