I hurt my left knee a month ago, with complete ACL tear and complex medial meniscus. The initial injury was back in 2000, with some "tissues damaged" as the doctor stated but minor tear impact as I suspected, the MRI didn't implied specfically, I'm unsure how to translate its findings. Since then, I had a couple more of tripping and falling and the left knee often gave way, and slight discolated feeling, I started to do some PT to stabilize my knee. Last september while working out, I jumped once and landed on my knee, heard a pop w/ intense pain. The new MRI indicated that I have completely tore my ACL and have very complex medial meniscus tear, virtually w/ bone-on-bone. Due to having Medicaid and it is impossible to find a surgeon in my area (seattle) who accepts my insurance, I am struggling to find a way of getting around without extreme pain (from the meniscus tear) and what brace to buy to protech the remaining ligaments until I can find the surgeon. I looked into ACL braces but most are very heavy to use for everydays activities, the lighter neoprene kind seemed to be flimsy and might not give me proper support, I started to read up about the OA braces, with the unloading feature to keep the bones off pressure from the damaged meniscus, I need advice on which is the best type of brace to use, I am aware the impact of damaged meniscus can results in the future but as of now, I do not know when I can get surgery. Please advise!
