Partial acl tear "intermediate grade interstitial tear of the mid fibres of the acl". Mid Sep 06.
Moderately active 45 female, living in Australia. Biking, walking, yoga, gymn, hiking/bushwalking, swimming, occasional rock climbing, boogie boarding, dancing. Even with all that still carrying more than ideal weight. If I want to continue ALL that, OS says I need surgery. Trying to decide.
Details: I had a ski accident learning to ski - fell over backwards with feet up against bum and in some pain, which cleared as soon as I was released from the position. Doctor on site said acl torn, I didn't believe it - not very painful and didn't want to believe it. Rest, ice, Compression bandage, elevation for some days followed. Knee didn't swell up until I tried to walk on it some days later, so back to the RICE regime. Went to OS to confirm or deny problem - he said it was gone, MRI showed as above - partial tear.
Trying to decide whether to live with it, or operate. Waiting and seeing how I go for a few months. But I may book in operation some months ahead as there's a waiting list for good OS's, especially without health insurance and wanting to get some of it through public hospital (Australian system).
