I am 53 years old and very active. I have torn my left ACL 4 times while playing tennis. All my tears after the first one were while wearing custom knee braces that were properly fitted and prescribed. Have had ACL replaced 3 times using an allograft. The first 2 were done by the same surgeon but went to a renown surgeon for the last one. He is the Chief of Sports Medicine at a famous clinic and has worked on many professional and college athletes. He said when he replaced my ACL that he did it more "anatomical" - which I understood to mean it was placed at an angle rather than straight up/down as previously.
I am now about 9 months post-op and am lifting weights, running, bicycling 6 days a week alternately in preparation of returning to playing tennis.
