See my website for my story. I started off similar to you. I went thru the brace business during the recovery period but then no brace later and none after the sports release.
The story regarding the recovery braces has to do with the conservatism of your OS prescribing it for risk preventativeness during the weeks/month(s) that the leg is more vegetable than it is muscle.
You sound like you are doing fine. I would not have the brace on when doing your flex exercises. Probably for most other exercises, you can wear the brace where you are only subjecting the leg to about 90 degree max flex. I would not get another brace...if the existing brace can go to about 120 degrees then it is fine for walking and most other things that you are allowed to do during your recovery. The only concern that your OS would probably have for you would be if you are doing an exercise or activity that you do not wear your brace but a mis-step/losing balance would create a situation where you would have to rely on the vegetable leg and it then has no protection/muscles to function properly...then putting it at risk of a setback.
