Agree there are variations on the recovery/rehab process. Most of us have successful recoveries. Most do not visit this website (or those that did, no longer do), so it is hard to get a feel as to just how many out there have had successful recoveries reading the postings/responses on this Board.
It is a long, slow recovery process that requires patience and consistency in exercising...Look at it as a slow challenge.
I was 49 1/2 when I had my ACL reconstruction and I am now closing in on my 59th BDay (in April). My knee is great ! I have had as close to a perfect recovery as one can expect. I only think of my knee and past injury when I visit this Board !
