Dear Drtjdel,
Indeed, I am involved in removing spam from the Kneeboard. Whenever I see spam on the Kneeboard, I report it to the administrator (who goes by the name Virtual Bob). This results in the spam being removed.
Previous respondent Nat (posting 333786) noted that all the spam here in the Kneeboard comes from bots (i.e. software written just to generate and distribute spam). Because the spam always changes, it is inherently difficult to filter out automatically, and so much of it must be done manually. I am one of several people who identifies and reports the spam, and since I was at a remote field site without Internet access (now I have satellite Internet, which is enormously welcome), spam sometimes accumulated. (If you would like to contribute to the spam-policing effort, please e-mail me and I will indicate how to report the spam.)
Nat's suggestion of an automatic system using a Captcha (an image containing a word or other character string that is unreadable by machine but is easily readable by humans) is an excellent one, and I have suggested it myself before. Implementation of it depends on various behind-the-scenes software issues which I am not familiar with.
Yours truly,
Michael Frind.
