There are no grafts when artificial ligaments are used for repair. The ends of the human ligament are inserted into the openings of the artificial one and screwed into place. At that point, the knee has a fully functioning ligament. It takes ~4 weeks for the bone to grow over the tiny screws. Over time, the human ligament has been shown to re-grow within the knit of the new ligament. I am waiting for a new 10yr, peer-reviewed study to be published in English. It was due in February but I have not seen it yet.
