Selecting a team physician might not be the smart choice

People tend to think that selecting a team orthopaedic surgeon is a good idea, because after all he/she was selected by the team. So he/she must be pretty good especially if he/she has been retained by the team for many years. That might not always be the case. The team might have selected the doctor based on financial incentive. Doctors know that being selected as a team physician is a great marketing tool. So they will offer to treat the whole team for a fixed very low price, or they could even pay the team to be selected. If you doubt this, you should read this article published in the San Diego Tribune. The doctor was sued by some of the football players he treated, and some of the financial details were revealed in court!! This article is a real eye opener.
