BIG needle in KNEE!

I stayed awake for my last surgery (meniscus removal) and after the were finished, they stuck a big needle to the lateral side of my patella. Since then I have had very weird sensations and it drives me to the point where I want to rip my leg off? Any ideas as to what this was and when will it go away? nerve block maybe?
