yes, totally normal to have pain in your shin. I remember seeing my Doc 10 days after surgery and him saying that a lot of his patients had intense pain in the shins. I hadn't at all and then it hit . . like a freight train. I was a patella auto - but I don't think it matters. Even now - (2 mos post op) I still get some pain below the screws. It only lasted a few days. It seemed for me really intense when I would first stand after sitting for a while but as I walked, it released. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
