This is as much a grumbling moan thread as much as it is a request for anyone who's had similar issues. I've apparently been living the past 3 years without an ACL.
I originally tore it in 1999 skiing... had PT recon in 2000 and was fine. Then, in 2004 I re-injured it playing it the snow (was tackled from the front, but had locked my leg behind me, resulting in a buckling). The OS who originally did the first recon saw some looseness, but thought I only had a partial tear. He ordered an MRI and instructed me to continue knee exercises. The MRI results didn't get to him till after I had to return to college, and he never followed up. I took this to be that they were not serious. I've since been backpacking and running since with no issue.
Fast forward to last week, I decided to try soccer again. About 5 minutes in, I was on the ground after running down field after the knee buckled. Saw a new OS who saw my original doc's notes and came to the conclusion that I have been living without an ACL for 3+ years. He of course recommends Hamstring recon and scheduled an MRI to look for cartilage damage. I REALLY am not looking forward to go through that again. I'm completely versed in the serious long term repercussions of what all this means, but its still temping to put off surgery for a year until it would be more convenient in my personal life.
Frustrated,
- Kevin
