I don't see any problems with having a glass of wine with dinner tonight.

In my two shoulder surgeries, there was the nothing-to-drink-after-midnight order too. Although it is logical (they don't want a patient to vomit under anesthesia, which could be potentially disastrous), I remember puzzling a bit over it, because this order was the same even if the surgery was scheduled for later in the day. (Granted, the midnight deadline also brings another benefit in the context of surgery and anesthesia, because it means reduced activity in the digestive and urinary tracts.)

When I asked the nurse (on the morning of my first surgery) about the nothing-to-eat-or-drink-after-midnight edict, she said that really what matters most is the 3 hours prior to the surgery. She confided that they use midnight as a blanket deadline simply because it is easy for everyone to remember.

So, if you get up at 6 am tomorrow morning and drink a few sips of water, and have surgery at 9:30 am, then you would be fine. (I would not recommend having a full breakfast.)

Besides, you would be eating dinner several hours before midnight tonight anyway. So, in any case you would be fine. Furthermore, wine is recognized as bringing cardiovascular benefits. Enjoy your dinner!
