How can the doctor tell ?

how can the doctor tell if i can play this upcoming football season without an acl? . i recently learned that its possible , my mri said i have a partial mcl . and a complete acl , but ive never felt any signs of instability so im hoping it goes that route because surgery would put me out for the season .
