I used crutches for several months at one point, and what I would do was to clamp my upper arm toward my torso and stop the top part from moving around too much.

Another type of crutch, the ones with the forarm cups, are an option, but I don't know if they can be use if you are non weightbearing, or if they are for partial weightbearing only.
