Hi cory - - I felt comfortable on the subway at about 3 weeks. I still used my crutches and brace at time so people would avoid me. And I tired to avoid rush hour. What I found is that NYC is a very unfriendly handicapped city. We have a car so that made it slightly easier. I am an ACL reconstruction/meniscus repair.
I just took my time -- it took me a while b/c I was walking so slowly and carefully. I felt like the car in the slow lane with my 4 ways on. Good luck
Christine
