Dear Chris,

I am not certain if the provincial healthcare insurance (OHIP) covers gait-biomechanics lab services, but I believe this is covered if prescribed by a doctor. I note that gait-biomechanics lab analyses are widely used for people with leg-length discrepancies or other such problems. Someone with genu valgum and ACL reconstruction should have the same access to a gait-biomechanics lab.

If not covered by OHIP, then it should be covered under extended healthcare plan (e.g. as obtained through your employer).

I recommend contacting the nearly Ministry of Health (MOHLTC) office and asking them directly (contact info under http://www.health.gov.on.ca/english/public/contact/ohip/ohiploc_dt.html ), but the physiotherapist or the foot-orthotics specialist might also be able to indicate whether gait-biomechanics lab services are covered by OHIP.

After that, all you should need is a prescription for a gait analysis.

Yours truly,
Michael Frind.
