Chronic swelling in allograft knee
Posted By: Patti K. Date: Friday, 28 March 2008, at 1:40 p.m.
Due to chronic swelling in my knee, it was suggested by Dr Mark to look into how my allograft was sterilized 7 years ago. The company I got my graft from has never used ethylene oxide; it was treated in gentimiacin (sp?). I couldn't find much information about gentimiacin, except for what my old OS's office told me which is that it's an antibiotic.
Any other suggestions that I can mention to my current OS? Just a quick background: I had the allograft 7 years ago and have problems with chronic swelling ever since. I fell down some stairs about 2 months ago, and my knee hasn't been unswollen since then. New OS thought at first it was a torn meniscus, but MRI states it's intact.
Other symptoms: It's super tight on the outside of the knee up where the patella attaches, and also where the screw is. This area can also get really sore, but not sharp pain. There's almost always pain on the joint line on the outside, sometimes sharp, like when I do any side-to-side motion or kneeling. Occasional pain on the inside joint line, generally when it's swollen.
Let me know if anyone has any suggestions, and thanks.
