I am 50 and was in good shape before paramedic school (:-{ ) I had a patella autograft 2 years ago and meniscus surgery a month ago. I didnt have any trauma either - I was squatting by a patient and tore the lateral meniscus. I understand that happens to the chronologically gifted. Compared to the ACL, the meniscus is a walk in the park. I missed one clinical shift and a couple of ride time shifts. I didn't have time for formal therapy (none of them wanted to be open at midnight) but 1 hour a day on the stationary bike will cure whatever knee ills ail you...
Now, I get pain at night if I have overused it during the day. Acetominophen and naloxone knock it out and I go to sleep.
Good luck to you.
