In Response To: Chronic swelling in allograft knee (Patti K.)
Just got back from the doctor- He's conservative and wants to try all of the non-invasive things before we do a scope/biopsy. That's fine with me, even though I'm pretty sure a cortizone shot will do nothing. So, I now have a cortizone shot and go back in another two weeks to see my progress.
While I'm ready to just go straight to doing the scope, he really wants to try out everything else first. Basically, he doesn't buy into the rejection of the allograft theory, and would only be doing the biopsy as part of a scope to look around. When I asked what else it could be, he said "let's wait and see if the cortizone does anything". Perhaps he didn't want to alarm me with a list of items that could be wrong, many of which are lifetime problems. What I'm not willing to have now is a lifetime of knee swelling without a reason. A knee doesn't just swell all of the time- there's a reason. Trying to get to it is the frustrating part. What's really funny is that everytime I go into to see him, my knee looks fine because I always go in the morning. Maybe I need to change my appointments to afternoons after I go work out to prove that my knee really does swell.
So, 2 more weeks of strengthening exercises & biking, and we'll see where that lands me. I guess marching through all of the options, even ones I've done with a different doctor that didn't work, is ok. Plus it gives me more time to focus on strengthening. Thanks!
