In Response To: is brace really necessary? (mitch)
You need to protect the cartilage which provides cushioning between your femur and tibia. It doesn't heal so you can't shred it up by pivoting around on it. You'll end up with a constantly painful knee that'll prevent you from playing any sports. Without surgery, you NEED TO WEAR A BRACE. There's to much pivot load going on in soccer and football. Get a good custom brace for the season, and hopefully you can get by until surgery. A brace won't replace an ACL reconstruction, but might buy some time.
