Can you play with no ACL and NO brace...sure...How long? Who knows.

Playing in a brace is no guarentee either. Dennis Dixon (from Oregon) is a good example of trying to play with a brace. However, I once braced a punter, Lane Bearden for Alabama, and it DID work. It was even on his KICKING LEG!

A lot of it seems to depend on the extent of the tear and if meniscus, MCL or LCL, and edema was involved. Any cutting or twisting will almost always be a problem, not to mention, cause further damage.

Be smart, don't believe all the hype of someone 'still playing with NO ACL'. Its usually bad info and is often misleading. Understand that everyday, medical professionals and MRI's mis-diagnose ACL injuries (or the extent of the tear) all the time. Not until a knee is scoped, is it ever certain. The fact is sometime it is just difficult to know if an ACL is a complete tear (greater than 50%) or a partial tear (less than 50%).

Be smart in your decision and remember the long term effects.
