In Response To: When were you released from PT? (jslseattle)

I was 49 when i had my ACL reconstruction. I had about 3 months PT but tapered down in the last month from what was 3X a week to 2x per week and then 1x per week. Then my PT gave me a brochure with all the fitenss exercises in the fitness center and at home that I should be doing. I was already starting to go to the fitness center using just the lifecycle and treadmill and so when therapy ended, i then kicked in the circuit training exercises my PT recommended and also the guidance that she provided on how to set up each piece of gear - for a recovering patient. The key for me was to practice doing many repetitions at low resistance settings and any exercise that could be done as a single elg exercise instead of with both, that's how i did them. Once I could do about 50 reps (in 3 sets) of a particular exercise, then i would bump up the resistance level and have had it again. Each week i would take these small incremental resistance level increases and not with all exercises at same time. This way, i could also pinpoint if any exercise gave me grief a day or two later. When going to the fitness center, because of the increased resistances, it is normal to give the leg a day of rest inbetween exercises or vary the exercises down each day. I tended to go about 4X a week in the beggining when i switched from therpay to the fitness center and also was given a partial sports release at 3 months post-op for outdoor biking and swimming. So, I was into biking and resumed my biking doing one one weekend day and then eventually was going to the fitness centewr 3X a week and biking at least twice a week as well.

I gained my sports release at 6 months post-op.
My story and info is on my website. I was a long time active supporter of this Board for many, many years....but now i am over 9+ years post-op, knee is great...and well i have other things to do. I still look in here regularly but just do not post as much. I am now 59 an into sailing , biking, some tennis , some himing and welll pretty much anything that I get an interest in. I have no limitations except what does or does not interests me. My knee is perfect.
