Anyone have similar microfracture nightmare?
Posted By: Cripple in Arizona Date: Wednesday, 7 May 2008, at 4:38 p.m.
I went in for ACL surgery May 11, 2007, and when I came out of surgery, and I was told I also had microfature on the femoral condyle region (inner right knee). I followed all the PT, CPM machine stuff and everything, like the doctor prescribed (Doctor is Dr Dean Cummings of TOCA in Arizona).
Since surgery I find it very difficult to walk without crutches. I am able to walk limited amounts without bending my knee. When I bend my knee and apply weight it is very painful, like someone if stabbing me with a knife. This is the area the microfracture was performed. This pain was not present before surgery.
My OS has since gone back in and done a knee scope (Nov 2007), and says that everything looks fine with the microfracture, but the ACL graft failed. Dr Cummings doesn’t know what has gone wrong, and has no idea why I’m in the pain that kind of pain. I’m 34 years old, this has ruined my life, and after Dr Cumming and TOCA said they can do nothing else for me I don’t know what options I have in ever getting better.
I’ve asked for a TKR, but been told at my age this is “ridiculous”, but I have no other options. I’ve been given nerve blocks to see if RSD or some other nerve related element might be generating my pain, but those had limited success. My pain feels like I have a broken bone in the area of the knee where the microfratcure holes were drilled that is “splitting apart”.
Has anyone else gone through microfracture surgery and come out significantly worse than they ever were before the surgery?
Is it possible to have some type of bone infection or something caused by drilling of the holes?
