Dr. Mark is correct - the few clinical studies of thermal shrinkage of failed ACL grafts have reported miserable results. A graft that is placed too far anteriorly needs to be replaced with a high strength graft placed in the anatomically correct position. We prefer the patellar tendon autograft - if it was previously harvested, then it can be taken from the opposite knee. For now, you need to focus on regaining normal knee motion and muscle strength and should avoid high risk activities (twisting, turning, pivoting, cutting) to reduce the chance of a reinjury. Sorry for the bad news, but with the damage already present in your knee, you should be careful to avoid future giving-way episodes.
