Microfracture doesn,t restore articular cartilage. Once its gone, its gone. Abrasion chondroplasty, where loose, delaminated cartilage is removed or 'cleaned up', when in a stable knee with relatively intact menisci, is in my hands often extremely effective. As I said, thise steadman picks aren't well designed. If a person has a stable knee and a focal articular defect, I frefer auto OATS. Articulas defects behind the knee or in the trochlear groove are a tough problem, however. Many success stories elsewhere in the knee. On the other hand I've replaced many many knees where the eburnated articular surface is seen along with perfect menisci ans ACL. Go figure. Pick your parents carefully.
