I had the patella autograft and so the scar issues and stitching methods may be different. However, when i was in therapy, I noticed quite a difference in how different individuals had their surgery stitched up. In my case, again this was with the patella autograft, my OS used staples. The front of my knee area looked like a frankenstein monster job. But...did not really bother me and kind of ran my fingers along the staples when some itching occured. Then the pulled out the staples...well it was not with a paper staple remover so don't faint yet ! They have this hnady dand y tool that straightens the staples and then the staples lift out so very gently - no pain/discomfort. Just about a year later....the line where the surgery was performed is barely noticeable. I have a photo on my website - Look at main page on right side and believe I have a section to click on to compare the knees. It's 2/3 of the way down the right side - Just above the icon labelled "Knee Lingo".
The good news for you :
When i was in therapy, there was a girl that also had surgery by my OS and also had the patella autograft. I noticed she did not have the staples. I questioned about that to believe my OS or his staff and was told that my skin w/some hair, etc was not so fair looking and so they usually go the staple route. But in the case of some, they go use a different stitching method that minimizes the initial look and results in a much less visible scar line - They use that on fair skinned individuals.
So..I would talk about stitching methods with your OS and find out what he has in store for you.
