I know you don't think it is the same pain as my nerve pain but I had asked the same thing in regards to my nerve situation....if something couldn't be done to just "kill" the nerve. My pain management doc who is an anesthesiologist with nerve experience, said the only thing he could suggest was cryo treatment...freezing it , but he said that could only give me a couple of months relief before the nerve might regenerate. In my case he said surgical removal might be my only choice and even then it is not fool proof to regeneration even though the nerve ends were cauterized and buried in the muscle and fascia.
