Was My Mensicus Repairable?
Posted By: RDonovan Date: Friday, 22 August 2008, at 5:19 p.m.
I recently had reconstrucive knee surgery and lateral partial meniscectomy.
During the preoperative consult the OS told me he would likely be able to repair the torn meniscus, which was a huge relief. However, after surgery the doc informed me that he was unable to repair it, opting to partially remove and smoothe the meniscus instead. I was really bummed about the news, but had no choice but to accept it.
I hate to second guess my OS, but based upon what I've read about meniscus zones (red and white) and their associated blood supply, my impression is that this tear may have healed with a repair. I hope I'm wrong.
I know it's water under the bridge, but just for my peace of mind, and sanity, can anyone here take a look at this picture of my torn meniscus and confirm that, in fact, it needed to be removed. Here's the pic: http://imagecloset.com/view15/3dc28fddd7c17ec3b3a7704654923e2d/torn_meniscus.jpg
Thanks for any help you can provide.
