You're the only one who can make that decision. I had my left knee done (auto-patella) when I was 40 because I wanted to keep playing soccer, I have no regrets, my knee is as good as ever.
I did the brace thing for a year, couldn't stand it, haven't worn it since. If all you want to do is cycle and jog you're probably ok without surgery, for tennis and skiing you'd be better off with a new ACL. Don't forget, without a properly functioning ACL, your knee is loose and prone to giving out which over time will wear your meniscus, no brace gives complete protection, especially from twisting movements.
If you have good insurance and want to stay active I say go for the surgery. Good luck.
