Dear Nat,
I am sorry to hear that you are having problems posting material. As you know, fighting spam is a continual battle. And, the nature of the spam has evolved substantially since this board was founded, back in 1996. (This forum's software has evolved, too, but the core spam-filtering technology, which employs a simple list that is continually being updated, is rather dated.)
Firstly, it is always good practice to compose one's response (to any message) in a separate word processor, such as Microsoft Word. (Linux/Unix aficionados can use Sun StarOffice or Open Office.) Be sure to save your document locally, on your computer. Now, you can easily copy-and-paste it (i.e. highlight the text, or press CTRL+A, and then CTRL+C to copy, and then go to the posting box, and press CTRL+V to paste it there). So, if your computer crashes or a power failure occurs, your document is not lost.
I understand the frustration of spam filters that tag legitimate content as spam. Some cases are surprising. For example, the world "Cialis" is in fact a legitimate word here -- because it is part of the word "specialist". That's why it is always nice to know exactly what words are causing the problems.
The best solution is to e-mail me directly (frind@execulink.com) with any posting problems. That way, I can update the spam-filtering list and remove legitimate words, so that the problem does not recur.
As you likely already know, I am one of a group of people involved with the behind-the-scenes operation of this forum (as well as the Knee Library). If you can send me the document that has caused you problems, then I can figure out where the problem lies. I can also post content for you.
Another option is to simply take half of your document, copy and paste it into the response-posting box, and click "Preview Message". This previewing uses the same spam filter as the "Post Message" button. By trying halves of your document, and by successively copying-and-pasting halved-down portions (i.e. if the filter gives you no problems with one section, then you know the problem lies elsewhere in the document) and testing them individually in this manner, you can find out what the offending word is. Then, you can substitute a different word.
Especially if the material you want to post is lengthy, just send it to me and I can take care of it.
Yours truly,
Michael Frind.
