ACL: patellar or hamstring

Hello,
I kind of stumbled on to this site and thought I'd post a question. On 19 December 2009 I fell skiing, twisted my knee, and completely ruptured the acl in my left knee. I plan to get it restored (and fairly soon), but I have a little more research to do. What it boils down to is deciding on whether to have the autograft taken from my patellar tendon or hamstring tendon. The impression that I get is the patellar tendon method used to be the preferred method, but that in recent years the tables have turned and the hamstring method has gained favor.
I have read that using the patellar method, the autograft bonds faster to the bond and is initially stronger. On the downside, harvesting material from the patellar tendon can cause problems with knee flexibility and discomfort kneeling.
The kneeling problem is obviated with the hamstring method, but the impression I get is that the hamstring autograft is slower to graft to the bone, and the bond may not end up ultimately being as good as with the patellar autograft.
At this point, I'm a little confused on which way to go. If anyone has any insights/opinions/thoughts, I'd love to hear them.
Cheers,
Peter in Minneapolis, Minn.
