Dear Michael,
Thank you SO much for all of the information regarding the CTI2. I had a feeling the brace should not be touching the boot, but when the orthotist called the company they said it was supposed to be that way. However, they did say they would fix it at no charge. I will measure the distance from my patella to the ski-boot tongue and get back to you. I was considering buying the ski-boot attachment. My insurance probably won't cover it. Do you know how much it costs? I may be going to Mammoth this weekend and was planning on wearing the brace as it is, since I don't have time to have it fixed before friday. Do you think this would be a problem? Thanks again for all your help!
Christina

Re: Brace recommendations for skiing — Adding a ski-boot attachment to the CTi2…
Dear Christina,
I called Innovation Sports, and asked about the alpine-ski-boot attachment. The device costs $48 USD. (Had the device been ordered at the time of brace purchase, the cost would have been included with the total cost, and thus would have been covered by insurance in any case. However, it should still be possible to have the cost of the attachment covered by the insurance company—just be sure to submit the bill for the attachment along with the bill for the brace.)
Use of the CTi2’s ski-boot attachment requires a small hole (complete with a special fitting) to be present in the brace’s lower shell. This installation step is free, but does require the brace to be sent back to the factory (in California). However, your brace needs to be shortened anyway, and so the shortening and the ski-boot-attachment-fitting installation would be done simultaneously.
There is one issue that needs to be addressed, prior to requesting the ski-boot attachment. The distance from the distal border of your patella to the top of your ski boot must be seven inches or more—otherwise, there is not enough room for use of the attachment. Have your clinician/orthotist measure this distance for you (in addition to the distance by which the brace’s lower shell is to be shortened). As long as there are at least seven inches between the bottom edge of your kneecap and the top of the ski-boot tongue, then the ski-boot attachment is suitable for you.
Yours truly, Michael Frind.
