This commentary-type article, published in the Canadian newspaper Kitchener-Waterloo Record, provides penetrating insight into the widespread human suffering that is a direct consequence of the wanton greed of the private American health-insurance firms. (On this knee-injury discussion forum, the largest of its type, there are regularly cases in which the person is financially strapped due to his or her knee-surgery-related medical bills. Also common are cases in which the person is unemployed and hence uninsured, and thus is forced to live with an unstable or rapidly deteriorating knee for which surgical treatment is out of reach.)
For American readers, the best sources of insight into United States issues tend to be non-American news sources. Some of the best news sources in the world are the German newsmagazine Der Spiegel (which is also available in English) and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) is also excellent. The best Canadian newspaper is the Toronto Star; the Globe and Mail is also very good.
